Residency Series Release ~ Attending To Light

I am happy to share the residency series release of formal works, Attending To Light.

Over the past several weeks I have been preparing to release the residency series that I created during my Artist in Residency program at The Art Center in Dover, New Hampshire.

This body of work includes 27 paintings. Together they explore light not only as something that falls on objects, but as something that exists before form is gathered and shared.
The artworks created during the study phase will also be released ~ you will see these in my shop soon.

Throughout the residency I worked in two companion directions.
Abstract Bouquet paintings that gather light, and non-representational abstract paintings that share the source of that light.

Seen together, these works form a conversation ~ One speaks of source, and the other reflects this light.

Imagining the Work in Real Life using ChatGPT

As I prepared the residency series release, I imagined the work in real life situations, and was inspired to explore something that became an unexpectedly creative part of the process.

I used ChatGPT to create interior scenes, such as kitchens, living rooms, offices, bedrooms, libraries, and quiet corners of daily life.

This became a surprisingly enjoyable exercise that I hope you’ll enjoy too, in the gallery of these images below.

Just as choosing titles, writing descriptions, or pairing music with a painting can reveal new layers of meaning, imagining the work in real life environments allowed me to express these meanings in a more interactive way.

The gallery images below are not meant to be literal staging, but rather they are invitations to imagine the work in the rhythm of real life.

Because that is where art ultimately belongs.

Two Exhibitions at The Art Center

A portion of the residency series release will be on view and available through two exhibitions at The Art Center in Dover, NH.

Artist In Residency Exhibition
A group exhibition featuring artists who completed the residency program in 2025. These include oil painters, alcohol ink artists, printmakers and more.

Rock the House ~ Members’ Annual Exhibition
This is an annual members’ only best of the best exhibition.

Both exhibitions run:

March 9 – April 30, 2026

Artist Reception:
Saturday, April 4
6–9 PM

These two exhibitions at The Art Center offer an opportunity to experience many of the works in person, where the layered surfaces, color shifts, and subtle light within the paintings can be seen fully.

When you purchase works through an exhibition, a portion of the proceeds will support the gallery as commission. I encourage gallery purchases for that very reason!

A Pivotal Season

This residency was a pivotal season in my work as I explored not only subject and materials, but also community and connection.

Many of the factors that shaped my work over the past couple of years came together during this time ~ a sense of wonder, strength, and inner light ~ both personally and professionally.

What Comes Next in the blog

What comes next is Part 3 of the three-part series, My Residency Experience.

The next post will include photographs from the exhibitions at The Art Center along with reflections on the residency itself and what this season of work has meant to me.

For now, I am simply grateful to release these paintings into the world and to see where their light may travel next.

I couldn’t be prouder of this body of work ~ thank you for following along and supporting this journey!

Some of the artwork is “Protected” by a pass code ~ this is to bring attention, not to deny access.
Each of the Protected works are on view and available through the exhibitions.
You can view their details using code: TAC.
