Description

I’m Feeling Lucky was all about that actual feeling as I was painting this piece on unprimed basswood. I was building layers of color and interest, looking for the subject, but alas I had to leave it for the night, not knowing what it was going to be. The next morning, feeling bright and ready to keep going, I felt lucky ~ like this painting was going to be whatever it was going to be and I was a proud caretaker to assist.

As I looked at the painting, I saw the vessel ~ it thrilled me! I said aloud and to friends, “I TOLD you that I was feeling lucky!”
I still had to figure out though, was this a bouquet? or maybe another one of my jars full of wishes all come true?

It ended up being both ~ and the title and feeling has continued with this piece to the end. It is a fantastic piece with tons of character and grit. It’s bold and colorful, in a fun abstract way ~ not cutesy, if that is your concern. The depth of color not only radiates, but stabilizes the piece. adding weight to the already oversized vessel.

Typical of a Melissa Lea, the bouquet is abstract, the flowers appear to be floating and none are any that you’ve seen in real life. As an intuitive expressive painter, painting from imagination without reference, I am as entertained by the piece as each viewer. I photographed it in early outdoor hazy sunlight, and indoor low light with color reflections.

This piece is nice and heavy, and you can knock on wood 😉 It’s got an attitude.

I’m feeling lucky was painted during the cold winter of 2024. It’s a pleasure to have it out in the summer light and a treat to release in the year it was painted. I varnished it matte. Today’s photos include samples of wood floater frames in white or gold, gold leaf, and stained wood. My recommendation is to see it in your space and consult with your framer or designer before deciding how best to showcase this original expressive contemporary piece of art created by Melissa Lea, an emerging artist residing in New Hampshire, USA.

Price includes delivery or shipping and arrives wired ready to hang and a certificate of authenticity.
