Offering 40×30″ Mixed Media Painting on Canvas

$2,400

Offering is a 40×30″ mixed media painting on canvas, framed in black contemporary wood frame, and a Capstone Work from the residency series Attending To Light.

Description

Offering is a 40×30″ mixed media painting on canvas, framed in a black contemporary wood frame, and created during my Artist in Residency program at The Art Center in Dover, New Hampshire.

This painting belongs within the residency body of work Attending To Light, where intuitive non-representational abstractions and bouquet paintings developed together as companions. The abstractions explore the source of light, while the bouquets reflect how that light appears within daily life.

Offering and From Infinity stand as the Capstone Works of the series. Together they complete the arc of the residency ~ light received, light held, and light shared.

Mixed Media Painting Exploring Light as Presence

In this mixed media painting, light does not behave as a simple highlight placed onto objects. Instead, color begins to illuminate from within.

Deep reds, violets, and warm atmospheric tones establish a surrounding field. Within that darker atmosphere, passages of color begin to glow. Because of this relationship, the light appears to emerge through the painting rather than rest upon its surface.

Throughout the residency, hue led the dance. I worked within a restrained palette drawn from passion, regal tones, and the natural world. These colors create warmth and depth.

Mixed Media Painting Built Through Layering and Process

The vessel within Offering holds an important part of the residency process. The vase is constructed from layers of tissue paper that I painted during the early study phase of the residency. These painted fragments were intentionally preserved and layered within the final composition.

Rather than covering them completely, I allowed these earlier marks to remain visible. In this way, the vase becomes evidence of the entire journey. It gathers the work of intention, exploration, and discovery that unfolded throughout the residency.

Transparent hues and accents move across the layered tissue surfaces. As a result, the vessel appears to hold light. The collage marks create subtle patterns and textures that continue to reveal themselves as you spend time with the painting.

Mixed Media Painting Reflecting Courage and Gentleness

The bouquet rises from the illuminated vessel with color that feels both courageous and gentle. The reds carry energy and presence, yet the shapes remain soft and feminine. Petal forms open slowly across the composition, creating a balance between strength and tenderness.

These qualities were intentional within the Capstone Works. They reflect the language that developed across the residency ~ courage paired with care, illumination balanced with rest, and expressive color held within a calm structure.

Within the series Attending To Light, Offering represents the act of sharing what has been received. Light gathers within the vessel, rises through color, and then opens outward through the bouquet.
