You Fill Up My Senses is a 14×11″ contemporary floral painting of acrylic on canvas panel created during my residency at The Art Center in Dover, New Hampshire.
This painting belongs to the residency body of work Attending To Light. During the residency, intuitive non-representational abstractions and companion bouquet paintings developed together. The abstract works explore the source of light. Meanwhile, the bouquet paintings reveal how that light appears in daily life.
Because of this relationship, the bouquet paintings feel lively, grounded, and present.
Color and Effervescence create a contemporary floral painting
This contemporary floral painting gathers vibrant color into a joyful arrangement. Layers of violet, teal, lavender, and turquoise move across the surface while a luminous golden vase anchors the composition below.
White linear marks move across the flowers like small sparks. Their movement creates a feeling of effervescence, allowing the bouquet to feel animated with light and motion.
Some passages feel energetic and spontaneous. However, other areas feel quiet and reflective. As a result, the painting holds both vitality and balance.
Painterly Vitality and Abundance
Painterly decisions let individual brushstrokes stay visible, and layers of color overlap without being over-blended. Because of this, the viewer can sense rhythm and the painting process.
