Description
Non-Representational Abstract Painting ~ Step Into Your Power
Step Into Your Power is a 16×20″ non-representational abstract painting on canvas panel created during my Artist in Residency program at The Art Center in Dover, New Hampshire.
This painting belongs to the residency body of work Attending To Light. Within the series, the abstractions speak of source ~ energy forming and shifting as light gathers and moves through color and structure.
Throughout the residency, hue led the dance. I worked within a restrained palette drawn from passion, regal tones, and the natural world. I explored light beyond simple shadow and highlight ~ light that reveals itself through color, mark-making, and form. Deep passages of tone became places of safety, rest, and contemplation, allowing the brighter fragments of color to emerge with quiet strength.
Non-Representational Abstract Painting Expressing Strength and Emergence
A strong diagonal passage moves through the composition, creating a sense of forward movement and gathering force. Along this edge, vibrant fragments of green, yellow, and pale light begin to appear. These moments of color feel alive against the surrounding blues and darker passages of tone.
Because of this relationship, the eye travels along the ridge where light concentrates before expanding outward again into the surrounding atmosphere.
Small passages of pearl pigment are woven into this diagonal area. These subtle reflective elements catch available light and respond quietly to the surrounding environment. In softer light they appear restrained and mysterious. As light shifts across the surface, they awaken with a gentle shimmer that adds another dimension of presence to the painting.
Non-Representational Abstract Painting Exploring Presence and Energy
Layered blues and deep tonal passages create a spacious field that allows the brighter marks to gather strength. These cooler areas provide grounding while the luminous fragments rise forward through the composition.
The result is a painting that feels both expansive and anchored. Energy forms, gathers, and begins to move with authority.
Step Into Your Power holds the feeling of a moment when strength becomes visible.
