Description

Large-Scale Original Painting

Lost In The Garden is an original large-scale contemporary landscape painting on 36 × 57 × 1.5″ canvas. I painted it flat on the wall with acrylic and mixed media. Later, I had it professionally stretched on a custom stretcher frame for exceptional stability and crisp gallery-wrapped infinity view sides.

I paint intuitively from imagination without reference images, and I prioritize color, composition, and mark-making. Rather than describing a specific location, I created the sensation of fresh air and luminosity within a lush, wild garden or field.

A luminous upper field creates openness, while layered expressive marks and deeper passages of color provide structure and visual depth. Floral forms emerge and recede throughout the composition, creating an immersive environment that rewards both distant viewing and close inspection.

Contemporary Landscape Painting Through Floral Language

Rather than a traditional horizon, vista or identifiable location, I constructed the contemporary landscape painting through floral language and expressive marks. Layers of blossoms, stems, leaves, and gestures overlap and interweave to create a sense of movement and growth across the entire surface.

The painting is organized through value as much as color. Light-filled passages occupy the upper portion of the composition and darker botanical forms establish weight and structure below. This relationship between luminosity and density creates depth and allows the painting to maintain its presence from across a room.

Scale and Immersive Viewing Experience

Lost In The Garden contemporary landscape painting installed in a bright professional office environmentAt 57 inches wide, Lost In The Garden’s scale functions as an immersive viewing experience. The panoramic format encourages your eye to move throughout the composition, to experience and discover marks and color relationships.

From a distance, it reads as an atmospheric landscape of light and growth. At closer range, individual marks, layered passages, and subtle color transitions reveal the process. By design, the surface continually shifts between broad visual statements and smaller discoveries.

Botanical color and tones work together to create atmosphere, and a sense of openness and vitality. I don’t rely on a dominant color, rather I built the painting’s atmosphere through the interaction of many related hues.

The result is a landscape that feels expansive yet intimate, structured yet alive. Light moves throughout the composition to create moments of contrast, depth, and visual rest.
