City Kids ~ An Original Framed Abstract Painting
City Kids is an original framed abstract painting that I created over more than a year, from 2022 into 2023. I paint intuitively from imagination without a reference image. As this painting evolved, it reminded me of the Manchester, New Hampshire neighborhood where I grew up.
Manchester, The Largest City in NH
Manchester is a mill city and the largest city in NH. As a child, I walked to school and downtown. The neighborhood kids and I played kickball and tag near the telephone pole in front of our house, along with plenty of hide-and-seek.
We didn’t have cell phones to distract us, and Mom would holler our names when dinner was ready. Afterward, we could go back outside to play until the streetlights came on.
The forms in this original framed abstract painting make me think of an assembly line. I didn’t plan that image before painting it. I wanted a sense of motion and space.
As the forms emerged, they brought back those neighborhood memories and thoughts of the products of Manchester’s history ~ all colorful characters, all gems shaping its neighborhoods.
An Original Framed Abstract Painting
City Kids is an original acrylic and mixed-media painting on wrapped canvas, finished with gloss acrylic varnish. The canvas measures 20 × 24 × ½ inches. In 2024, I had it professionally framed in a ¾” wood frame with silver and cobalt detailing.
