My First Christmas Tree Painting
Early in my art career, as I explored subjects and style, I created my first original Christmas tree painting, Peace For The Journey. I was so excited by this first piece that I continued to paint Christmas trees for months, creating the series, Peace.
The Peace Series is inspired by the holiday tradition of exploring decorated neighborhoods; the series captures the pleasure of glimpsing a neighbor’s Christmas tree through an open curtain. We see only part of the scene, leaving room to imagine the people, celebrations, and traditions beyond the window.
Painted intuitively on canvas and paper, each Christmas tree has its own personality, expressed through layered color, movement, and luminosity. The Peace Series brings a contemporary interpretation to a familiar holiday tradition, celebrating the warmth, individuality, and beauty of the Christmas season.
An Early Original With My Hallmarks
Bold marks, an innate balance of color and composition, whimsy, wonder, and unmistakable New England character come together in Peace For The Journey. In this original Christmas Tree painting, ornaments emerge from the layered green tree, while cool turquoise with bits of silver and gold gives the composition space and movement.
The warm-toned mat, with its hint of sparkle, brings a note of vintage tradition to the cool colors of the painting. The wood frame with its gold accent and glare-free museum-quality glass give this original a substantial, finished presence.
From My Private Collection
I painted the original Christmas Tree painting, Peace For The Journey, in 2022 and had it professionally framed in 2024. It has remained in my private collection, apart from a one-day presentation at an in-person open studios event in 2025. I am now making this first painting in the Peace Series available through my website for a limited time.
Mixed Media, framed
Peace For The Journey was painted with acrylic mixed media on 24 × 18 in, 246 lb Strathmore 400 Series acrylic paper, with its distinctive linen-like finish. The professionally framed work measures 33 × 27 inches and has a warm-toned mat with a hint of sparkle, a wood frame with a gold accent, and glare-free museum-quality glass. This is a one-of-a-kind original from the Peace Series.
