Description

From Infinity ~ Original Abstract Painting

From Infinity is a 30×40″ original abstract painting on canvas created during my Artist in Residency program at The Art Center in Dover, New Hampshire.

This painting belongs within the residency body of work Attending To Light

ht, where intuitive non-representational abstractions and abstract bouquet paintings developed together as companions. The abstractions explore the source of light while the bouquets reflect how that light appears within daily life.

From Infinity and Offering stand as the Capstone Works of the series. Together they complete the arc of the residency ~ light received, light held, and light shared.

Original Abstract Painting Exploring Light and Presence

In this original abstract painting, light is not simply highlight and shadow, the color appears to generate illumination from within the forms themselves.

Deep blues and violets establish a quiet atmosphere that surrounds the composition. Within that darker field, passages of red, green, and yellow begin to glow. Because of this relationship, the light appears to emerge through the structure of the painting rather than resting on its surface.

Throughout the residency, hue led the dance. I worked within a restrained palette drawn from passion, regal tones, and the natural world. These colors create both warmth and depth, allowing the painting to shift subtly as the surrounding light in the room changes.

Original Abstract Painting Created Through Intuition and Layering

This original abstract painting developed through an intuitive process of layering and response. Each passage of color was allowed to settle before the next decision was made. Because of this approach, the composition carries both movement and stillness at the same time.

On the left side of the painting, sweeping arcs of color open the atmosphere and suggest motion. These forms feel expansive and energetic. Meanwhile, the larger form on the right gathers color inward, creating a vessel-like presence that feels grounded and contemplative.

Between these areas, a darker vertical passage creates a quiet hinge within the composition. This space allows the painting to breathe while guiding the eye across the surface.

Original Abstract Painting Reflecting the Source of Light

Within the series Attending To Light, the paintings explore light beyond simple shadow and highlight. Instead, the work reflects light as something interior and light as source.

Darkness therefore becomes an important element. Rather than representing absence, the deeper colors create a sense of rest and safety where the luminous passages can slowly emerge.

Because of this balance, the painting changes throughout the day. In brighter light the colors appear bold, expansive and atmospheric. In quieter evening light, the luminous areas become more concentrated, allowing the painting to feel calm and contemplative.
