Description
Winds Of Changes is an original large-scale radiant floral painting with a luminous vessel, inner-fire color, abundant expressive marks, and a powerful feminine presence.
It is bold, full, and alive with layered color, carrying the warmth of sunshine through a dense field of floral movement. The bouquet rises from a rounded vessel that feels grounded, maternal, and protective, while the upper field dances with reds, pinks, corals, greens, golds, and smoky dark passages.
Winds Of Changes doesn’t demand attention, but it can stop you in your tracks. Its presence comes from fullness, color, and emotional force rather than scale alone. The painting gathers layers, movement, memory, and feeling into one abundant form, creating a work that feels both tender and powerful.
Unexpected Color Relationships
This large-scale radiant floral painting brings together floral imagery and abstraction through expressive mark-making, layered media, and unexpected color relationships. The flowers are not rendered as delicate decoration. They arrive through gesture, pressure, rhythm, and accumulation, allowing the bouquet to become a vehicle for emotion.
The blue-green vessel is central to the work. Round and full ~ it feels bodily and protective and carries history. Its layered surface creates a luminous effect, with blues, greens, aquas, yellows, and violet undertones moving through one another. Against the darker base and warm surrounding field, the vessel appears to hold light within it.
A Painting of Reassurance, Protection, and Change
Winds Of Changes holds a meaningful place in my career because it arrived during a season of transition, doubt, and personal discernment. While painting from imagination and intuition, I felt the work offering reassurance and confirmation. It became a painting about trusting the path, receiving encouragement, and continuing forward even when the next step was not fully clear.
A personal story lives within this painting. Soon after my grandmother passed in 1990, I felt that she sent me a song that has encouraged me now for several decades (Joan Baez, Forever Young.) During the making of Winds Of Changes, that song replayed in my mind and in the work itself. It encouraged me and cast light on my path, reinforcing my professional career choice.
It is no surprise to me that the central form is round, full-circle, and maternal. The colors feel connected to my inner fire and feminine nature, and the vessel feels light, deep, and full of wonder and history.
There is also a maternal tenderness in the work. She feels like the coziest sweater, but she is not passive. It’s as if she lights up when she sees you coming and sits bold and confident, protecting your dreams in her heart. She is playful like a child, forever young.
This is part of why Winds Of Changes remains so significant to me. It carries the feeling of comfort, is energized by a knowing, and stands bold in truth.
