Description
Contemporary Abstract Diptych Painting
Contemporary abstract diptych painting, Somewhere In Between Something Arrives, is a mixed-media work on paper (24×18 inches each.) I created this as a paired composition, but it can be installed side by side, or placed within the same space as companion paintings.
When we move toward something ~ a goal, a challenge ~ time and action begin to shape us.
What unfolds is not always what we planned, but it strengthens us, builds confidence, and gently guides us forward.
This diptych reflects that movement. One painting holds the in-between ~ a place of becoming ~ while the other suggests arrival, a shift, something emerging into clarity. Together, I created a rhythm of pause and momentum, tension and release.
A field of aqua and sea glass green builds an atmospheric ground, layered with intuitive marks. Scribbled lines, gestural strokes, and moments of expression create a language that feels both searching and certain. These marks are evidence of response, memory, and presence.
I am known for painting light from within, and here that reveals itself through layering rather than a single focal point. The surface invites the viewer to pause, to seek, and to explore ~ to spend time within the work and allow meaning to unfold.
Each Piece Holds Its Own

Each piece in this contemporary non-representational diptych holds its own composition and energy, while the pairing expands the experience. Installed together, they create a dialogue across space. Separated, they remain connected ~ offering continuity within a room without requiring symmetry.
Abstract Diptych Painting
I created this abstract diptych painting with acrylic and mixed media including Stabilo woodies, Caran d’Ache crayons, and graphite pencil on Strathmore 400 series paper with a subtle linen finish.
The works are unframed and shipped flat with an acid free board. They can be framed to suit your space, whether displayed as a diptych or as companion pieces.
Visual Presence and Placement
The aqua-based palette and layered surface lend themselves to contemporary interiors, coastal environments, and spaces that value tone, material, and emotional presence.
These works pair naturally with warm woods, natural fibers, glass, and organic elements, where their depth and movement can be experienced both up close and from across a room.
This diptych sits naturally alongside works such as Breaking Free, Take A Break, I Love How You Love Me, and I’m A Child. It shares a similar aqua blue palette, openness, and sense of warmth and freshness. Together, these works form a cohesive visual language rooted in movement, feeling, and interior presence.
